District Earns Window Grant for North Intermediate
MSBA will pay for about half of energy efficient glass.

Residents approved construction of a new high school in December. But that’s not the only building in town getting an upgrade in the near future.
Massachusetts School Building Authority members approved Wilmington’s application for a window project at . As a result, the MSBA will pay for about half of the project, which will make the school more energy efficient.
It’s the second project of its kind in town in the last year. The district received a grant to on as well.

“It’s obviously good news,” said Town Manager Michael Caira. “We can point to the fact that we just had a successful project through the MSBA. Once you establish a track record and put in a good submission, you give them a good reason to select you.”
The project is contingent on residents approving the local share of the funding at this spring’s Annual Town Meeting. Article 9 addresses the North Intermediate project.

A total of 69 applicants applied for grant money, while just a small group was selected. The windows will be installed by next summer.
“We’re trying to maximize our resources in terms of dollars and facilities,” said Caira. “Whenever you can extend the useful life of a good facility that is programmatically sounds, that’s what we ought to be doing – putting money into these facilities. We can improve our buildings without having to knock them down or do wholesale renovations.”
