SolarCity Expands in Massachusetts, Opening Operations Center in Wilmington
Company says new North Shore location will help meet increased solar demand and bring new jobs to the area.

SolarCity® is expanding its Massachusetts operations with a new 10,000 square foot North Shore Operations Center in Wilmington. The new operations center — SolarCity’s third in Massachusetts — brings new jobs to the area and allows the company to keep pace with growing solar demand in the northeastern part of the state.
SolarCity, the nation’s #1 solar power provider, makes it possible for many Massachusetts homeowners to install solar panels for free and pay less for solar electricity than they pay for electricity from the local utility, company officials say. SolarCity can install solar for MA residents for no money out of pocket and show immediate savings. This includes design, installation, monitoring, insurance, and a performance guarantee.
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and the state legislature have championed the growth of the solar industry in Massachusetts. The passing of the Green Communities Act, the Global Warming Solutions Act and the Green Jobs Act in 2008 set the framework for Massachusetts energy policies that have helped to spur the rapid growth in the Massachusetts solar marketplace.

State officials welcomed the announcement.
“The Massachusetts solar industry is growing by leaps and bounds, and this facility is yet another brick and mortar example,” says Secretary Maeve Vallely Bartlett, Energy and Environmental Affairs. “The continued growth of solar here in the Commonwealth shows that our investments in clean energy provide not just environmental benefits, but economic ones, as well.”

“With more than 8,400 workers, the solar industry is truly booming in Massachusetts,” says Massachusetts Clean Energy Center CEO Alicia Barton. “Over the last several years, Massachusetts residents and business owners have enthusiastically embraced the benefits of solar energy, making this the perfect place for companies like Solar City to grow their business.”
The expansion means a significant number of new jobs for the area. SolarCity currently has more than 50 open positions for the new facility — and 100 open positions across the state. Open positions include installers, sales, electricians and engineers. This is the company’s second expansion in the state over the last six months. SolarCity now employs more than 255 staff in Massachusetts.
