Sunday's Storm Kept Wilmington Police Busy

Even though Wilmington wasn't as hard hit as other Massachusetts towns, there were still problems to contend with.

WILMINGTON, MA -- Wilmington got less than half an inch of rain in Sunday's storm, which left several communities closer to the ocean dealing with impassable roadways and flooded basements. But Wilmington Police were busy, according to the department's police log.

The Department of Public Works reported that flooding on Suncrest Avenue near West Street, which was first reported to police at 10:24 am, was caused by a catch basin that has been an "ongoing issue." The road was flooded but passable, and DPW told police that the water level "should" go down and to follow up with a call if it did not.

Police received several calls beginning at 10:33 am for a low-hanging wire at the intersection of Glen Road and West Street. The wire was low enough that only one lane of traffic was able to get by. While investigating, police also discovered another low-hanging wire to a residence on Glen Road. Police notified Reading Municipal Light, which repair the wires.

At 11 am, a resident called to report heaving flooding on Salem Street. After observing that the worst of the flooding was on the North Reading side of the town line, police notified the North Reading Department of Public Works.
