Textron Cuts 51 Jobs At Wilmington Plant

The 51 job cuts follow a round of 200 job cuts at the Lowell Street facility earlier this year.

WILMINGTON, MA -- For the second time in less than a year, Textron is cutting jobs at its Lowell Street plant. In documents filed with the state, the defense contractor said it is cutting 51 jobs. That follows a round of 200 job cuts earlier this year at the plant, which makes weapon and sensor systems.

The layoffs, which will occur over the next two months, are not a complete surprise. When Textron announced the previous round of job cuts, it said it was discontinuing the sale of the components that are used in cluster bombs and were made at the plant.

The Boston Business Journal reported that the $13.8 billion company is going totry to offer new positions to employees within the company and at different locations.
