Tractor Trailer Crash Closes Salem Street, Parts of Town Without Power Wednesday
Accident happened near the North Intermediate School. Salem Street reopened around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
A tractor trailer crashed on Salem Street at the North Intermediate School Thursday afternoon. According to Wilmington Police, the unit took down multiple wires and poles along Salem Street and Middlesex Avenue.
Police asked residents to avoid the area and expect delays. The road was closed throughout Wednesday afternoon and reopened around 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
Just after 3 p.m. Wednesday, police said Ballardvale Street was also closed from the I-93 south ramp to Salem Street. At the time there was currently no estimate on when the road would reopen.

Parts of town were without power, due to the crash and school buses at both the North Intermediate School and the Woburn Street School were running behind Wednesday afternoon.
As of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, while Salem Street was still closed, Reading Municipal Light restored power 100 percent to the area.

The Registry of Motor vehicles posted just after 2 p.m. that the Wilmington branch is currently unable to perform transactions due to a power outage.
Residents reported power was out in the following areas:
- Ballardvale Street near Rte. 125
- Birchwood Road
- Avalon Oaks
- Dadant Drive off North Street
- Marcia Road
