Travel Team Seeks Commissioners Cup Title

Wilmington Youth Soccer Association's BU10-6 third grade travel team looks to continue dream season this weekend.

For one group of 11 eight- and nine-year-old boys from Wilmington, June 16 and 17 will be dates that they will likely remember forever.

These boys, who make up Wilmington Youth Soccer Association's BU10-6 third grade travel soccer team, are heading to the Middlesex League Commissioner’s Cup to compete for a League title.

Along with head coach Anthony Almeida and assistant coaches Dave Smith and Tim Healey, these talented players have already had a season worth talking about. The spring soccer season is a challenging one and the team proved that it was more than up to the task.

The third grade team ended the regular season with eight wins, no losses and one tie. More impressive than that, however, is that fact that the team remained “unscored” upon throughout the nine games.

They have already earned first place in Division 4 and, this weekend, at the Middlesex League Commissioner’s Cup, they hope to add yet another title to their name.

Having only played together for two years seasons, these boys can attribute their success, as Coach Almeida said, “to a combination of teamwork and 100 percent effort.”

A soccer coach for the past five years, Almeida knows what a huge accomplishment a division title is.

“Coming in first place in our division wasn't an easy task and is such an accomplishment for these kids at such a young age. They have come so far and I am so proud of them for giving it their all at every game and practice,” he said. “I am honored to coach them and to work with the two great assistant coaches I have, Dave Smith and Tim Healey.”

Without doubt the competition at Middlesex League Commissioner’s Cup will be tough, but WYSA’s BU10-6 3rd Grade Travel Team is ready to go. The boys have worked hard for this opportunity and their parents and coaching team could not possibly be more proud of them.
