Two Charged In Illegal Ammunition Sale At Wilmington Gun Show

Cambridge Police say Brian Schwarztrauber made statements about going on a mass shooting spree.

WILMINGTON, MA -- A Cambridge man who attended this past weekend's gun show at the Shriner's Auditorium in Wilmington is facing charges after being arrested by Wilmington Police. Brian Schwarztrauber, 54 of Cambridge, was charged with illegal possession of ammunition and is facing an additional charge. Stephen Fowler, 69 of Guilford, CT, the vendor, was charged with selling ammunition without complying with the requirements relating to Firearms Identifications Cards..

Wilmington Police were called to the Northeast Gun Show after a report of a man who was being disruptive and refusing to leave. According to the Middlesex District Attorney's office, police detected a strong odor of alcohol. While they questioned Schwarztrauber, they were notified by Cambridge Police that he had made statements about going on a mass shooting spree. Cambridge Police contacted Wilmington Police after learning Schwarztrauber was at the show.

Schwarztrauber was placed in protective custody while police continued their investigation. When an employee told police Schwarztrauber had purchased the ammunition without showing a Firearms Identification card, they searched his car and found the ammunition.

Cambridge Police obtained a search warrant for Schwarztrauber's apartment and found another box of ammunition but no firearms. Schwarztrauber pleaded not guilty Wednesday. He was released on $25,000 bail and ordered to wear a GPS tracking bracelet.

Schwarztrauber was also ordered to not attend gun shows or go to gun stores, possess weapons, consume alcohol or drugs, or have any contact with the witness. He is due back in court on April 2.

Fowler was released on $500 bail and ordered not to sell guns or ammunition in Massachusetts. He is due back in court on May 22.
