Here's a look at some important dates on the Wilmington Public Schools calendar, and some other helpful back-to-school tips for parents.

WILMINGTON, MA — Parents, you've almost survived the summer. Students are due back in Wilmington schools on Weds., Aug. 31 except for kindergarten. The return is immediately followed by another break, with no school Fri., Sept. 2 or Mon., Sept. 5 (Labor Day).

There will be an early dismissal day on Sept. 30 for curriculum improvement. Kindergarten students will begin classes on Sept. 6. High School parent-teacher conferences will be held on Nov. 15.

Gone are the days of Labor Day marking the start of the school season. Tell the kids not to complain - many schools across the country start before the end of August, and some even in July, according to CNN. And parents, no complaining from you either - some schools don't welcome back students until well into September.
