Who Are Wilmington's Campaign Donors Giving To This Year?
Federal Elections Commission data shows almost $50,000 worth of campaign donations from Wilmington residents, mostly through June.
WILMINGTON, MA —Wilmington's political donors have spread their money widely this year, with no candidate getting even 10 percent of their money so far this year. According to data from the Federal Elections Commission, most of which dates to the end of June, Wilmington residents gave over $1000 to four different Democratic presidential candidates, as well as a variety of congressional campaigns and issues-based committees. 290 different people donated in that period, for a total of $48,765.15.
The biggest single donor was insurance broker Charles J Brophy of HUB International, who gave $5,000 to The Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers Political Action Committee. In second was Richard Anton, CFO of the real estate company GFI Partners, who gave $2,800 to former Vice President Joe Biden's campaign.
Many of the donations came in smaller increments, however, often made through ActBlue, the nonprofit which many Democrats use to raise online donations. Over $10,000 in contributions were made through the service. ActBlue itemizes small donations, which is not required, so data on donations to Democrats is more complete than donations to Republicans or other organizations.
