Wildcats Preparing for Winter Sports Season
Teams at Wilmington High School are just days from starting the 2012-13 season.
The 2011-12 winter sports season was a memorable one with a boys hockey state championship and a deep playoff run by the girls basketball team. What will 2012-13 have in store? We'll soon find out.
Wilmington High School teams are beginning regular season action as early as this weekend, with things beginning to heat up next week.
The wrestling team is the first Wildcat squad to get underway, traveling to a quad meet against Lynnfield, Westford, Hopkinton and North Reading on Saturday at 10 a.m.

On Monday, the boys and girls track teams head to their season opening meet against Woburn, traveling for the 5 p.m. tilt.
Wednesday is a busy day of Wildcat sports. The JV track teams head to Woburn at 5:15 p.m., the wrestling team opens its home slate against Belmont at 6 p.m., and the girls hockey team does the same with an 8 p.m. game against Woburn at Ristuccia Arena.

The state champion Wildcats boys hockey team begin their title defense with a tough test right out of the gates. Wilmington travels to face Woburn at 8 p.m. in a rematch of last year's season opener, a dramatic 1-1 tie.
Basketball season tips off on Friday with the boys on the road against Woburn at 7 p.m. and the girls hosting the Tanners at 7 p.m.
A busy sports week wraps up on Saturday with the boys hockey home opener against Lexington at 2:30 p.m. and a road girls hockey tilt against the same foe at 5:20 p.m.
Also on Saturday, Wilmington hosts the annual Sons of Italy Wrestling Tournament, which begins at 10 a.m. inside Shriner's Auditorium.
