Wilmington to Automate Trash and Recycling Pick up

The town-wide program will go into effect on July 1.

Wilmington Selectmen Monday night approved moving the town to automated trash and recycling collection starting this summer. The measure could save the town $100,000 a year, according to DPW Director Michael Woods.

On hand for the discussion was Woods and Kevin Douglas from Russell Disposal. Several communities throughout Massachusetts and nearby Wilmington have already gone to automated trash and recycling.

With the program, similar to others, residents will receive two containers: a 64 gallon trash container and a 95 gallon recycling container for their weekly pickup. Residents will be limited to these containers. Single Stream Recycling will allow residents to combine all recycling in one container, which will mean no more sorting.
