Wilmington Bids Farewell To Fire Chief, Preps To Name Replacement

The town has six candidates for the position, all of whom are qualified to lead the department, according to retiring Chief Rick McClellan.

WILMINGTON, MA -- All six candidates to become Wilmington's next fire chief are qualified to lead the department according to current Chief Rick McClellan, who is retiring at the end of the year. McClellan has been with department since 1982 and has been chief since 2014, when long-time Chief Ed Bradbury stepped down. Selectmen are expected to name a new chief in early January.

"There's not a lot of people who can after they retire say they were the chief of any fire department," McClellan told the Lowell Sun, which first reported this story. "It's just been a privilege."
