Wilmington Chamber Running to Help WHS Students
Town's Chamber of Commerce offering five scholarships to Wilmington High School and Shawsheen Tech students thanks to road race proceeds.
Wilmington’s Chamber of Commerce isn’t just a helpful resource for local businesses. The group is also assisting students as they look to take their education to the next level.
The Chamber is offering five scholarships totaling $5,000 to the Class of 2012 from Wilmington High School and Shawsheen Technical High School, thanks in large part to proceeds from the annual half marathon and 5k run/walk.
“Part of the Chamber’s mission is to enhance the quality of life within or community by supporting civic and social welfare,” said Executive Director Nancy Vallee. “The Chamber is not only a resource for the business community, it is also a resource for the entire community.”

Three of the scholarships will be provided to students pursuing a degree in business or attending a post-secondary trade school. One of the scholarships is in partnership with last year’s premier race sponsor Security Innovations that will be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in technology or security/law enforcement. The final aware is offered in memory of Kelli Murray.
Anyone student interested in the scholarship must live in Wilmington. The application form is attached to this article, and is also available in the guidance offices of Wilmington High School and Shawsheen Tech.

This year’s road race is slated for Sunday, September 23. The event features either a 13.1 or 3.1 mile course, and is heavily attended each year.
During the event, many high school students earn their community service hours by volunteering in various roles while others offer their time as well.
Vallee said the road race is a great example of how Wilmington’s Chamber of Commerce helps community members of all ages to come together.
“We all work together to help our neighbors and build a strong community,” said Vallee.
