Wilmington Continues Newly Found Winning Ways
Wildcat boys lacrosse team earns second win in three games, matching 2010 win total.
It’s the type of play that lacrosse coach Mike Fay said separates the men from the boys. On Tuesday, Trevor Foley proved which side he falls on.
Foley emerged from a scrum in front of the net with a loose ball and fired it home early in overtime to provide the Wildcats with a 9-8 win over Ipswich at Woburn Street School.
Thanks to the goal, Wilmington earned its , matching its win total of the entire 2010 campaign.

“We got a good break on the ground ball,” said Fay. “In the overtime we were in man to man in a pressure situation. We got the turnover, took it up field and bang, you win the game.”
Though Wilmington pounced out to a 4-1 advantage early, Ipswich swung back and took a 6-5 lead. After an early Ipswich goal in the second half, the Wildcats snagged momentum right back to their side with three straight goals.

The third stanza ended with the game tied 8-8, and neither team cracked the scoreboard in the final period.
Ryan Kennedy, Peter Leighton, Mitchell DeAmbrose and Brian Prien each tallied goals in addition to Foley’s two markers.
Fay said his team is gaining confidence with each victory.
“It reinforces the things we’re trying to tell them about the game. It’s a motion game, offensively and defensively,” said Fay. “They’re even starting to call their own plays … they’re starting to feel comfortable with the diversity and starting to make things work.
