Wilmington Educational Foundation Running Spring E-V-E-N-T

Teams can register for a March Spelling Bee by February 28.

It's not difficult to spell WEF. But the words at the group's first annual spelling bee are likely to be a little more difficult.

Wilmington Educational Foundation members are planning the event in place of their annual Vendor Fair. The spelling bee will take place on Thursday, March 14, at the Tewksbury/Wilmington Elks Club. Registration will begin at 6 p.m. and the event starts at 7 p.m.

Teams of three will spell through several preliminary rounds, which the group calls "swarms." According to WEF, the winner of each round will then compete in the championship swarm where a winner will be named.

Alleviating the pressure of the standard spelling bee format, there will be no solo spelling. Teams will huddle up and decide on their response.

Local businesses can create or sponsor a team and pay a tax-deductible entry fee of $250. Individual team registration is $100 per team, with team hats, shirts, etc., encouraged.
