Wilmington Elementary School Gets Its Very Own Weather Station, And A Mystery To Go Along With It
Shawsheen Elementary students now know all about the weather, but are wondering what -- or where -- exactly is Pattenville?

WILMINGTON, MA -- The Shawsheen Elementary School in Wilmington recently installed a weather station on the roof of the school. The station was purchased by the Shawsheen/West PAC and 3rd grade teacher Patrick McInerney has been named the school's official weather reporter. Principal Lisa King reported the purchase to parents in a blog post published Friday.
Readings from the weather station are available online and the station serves as one of the data collection points meteorologists use to track weather and make forecasts. But the new weather station has offered something of a mystery: instead of listing the location as Wilmington, the reading displays as having been taken in Pattenville.

"You may wonder why it brings you to Pattenville, MA... We are not 100% sure," King wrote in her post. "Apparently the East Billerica/RT 129 Wilmington area and a small part of Tewksbury are referred to the 'Pattenville' neighborhood. I've yet to find an exact reason why but this 'neighborhood' includes our Shawsheen School. If anyone discovers anything about this, please let us know as this will be a fun fact to share with the students."
If anyone has information about the history of the Pattenville neighborhood in Wilmington, please forward it dave.copeland@patch.com, who will make sure it gets sent along to Principal King.
