Wilmington Little League Celebrates Opening Day

Wilmington Little League players, coaches and parents kicked off the season in style on Saturday during the town's annual .

Participants marched from and filed into , where local officials talked about the excitement of baseball season.

"Enjoy every day you're on this field," said Board of Selectmen chairman Lou Cimaglia. "It goes by quick. These are memories that will last a lifetime."

The boys hockey team, fresh off its , also participated in the festivities.

Throwing out the ceremonial first pitches were a pair of United States Army veterans. Bill Savosik, a Vietnam veteran, and Charles Coleman, who recently returned from Afghanistan, each threw first pitches towards Wilmington Little League catchers waiting near home plate.

Wrapping up the celebration was boys hockey captain Dalton Rolli, who gave the first "Play Ball" of the season into the microphone.

"Events like this show why Wilmington is a wonderful town," said Town Manager Michael Caira, "and a wonderful place to be."
