Wilmington Man Arrested In Billerica Crucifix Attack

Torrey Smith, 39, of Wilmington, was arrested on a felony warrant Wednesday.

WILMINGTON, MA -- Billerica Police arrested a Wilmington man on a felony warrant stemming from a August 22 on an assault on his ex-girlfriend and her acquaitenance. Police say Torrey Smith, 39, of Wilmington, broke into the woman's residence and attacked her and another person with a wooden crucifix. One of the victims sustained excessive tissue damage to the nose and face.

Smith was arrested during a traffic stop on Boston Road in Billerica. A police officer recognized Smith, who was a passenger in the car. Smith, who initially gave police a fake name, was scheduled to be arraigned in Lowell District Court Thursday.
