Wilmington Man Credited For Quick Response After Crash
Off-duty Watertown firefighter Tony Marra jumped into action after witnessing the crash on July 18.

WILMINGTON, MA -- When a 38-year-old woman rolled over her 2012 Nissan Rogue at 8:20 am on July 18, Tony Marra jumped into action. Marra, a Wilmington resident and a Watertown firefighter, saw the accident on Route 38 and helped the woman escape from the vehicle, administered a trauma assessment and helped calm the woman down while awaiting for emergency personnel to respond.
"Marra gained entry into the overturned vehicle, helped extricate the patient, and removed the patient from the immediate danger of the running overturned vehicle in an active roadway," Wilmington Fire Lieutenant Robert Varney told the Wilmington Apple, which first reported this story. "When I reached the patient, Marra had already given the patient a rapid trauma assessment, and had successfully calmed the patient down from an excitable state due to the severity of the accident."
