Wilmington Man Pleads Guilty To Armed Bank Robbery

BOSTON, MA -- Russell Dinovo, 52, of Wilmington, pleaded guilty to one count of armed bank robbery in federal court Monday. Dinovo faces up to 25 years in prison for his role in the Oct. 9, 2015 robbery of the Hingham Institute for Savings branch in Beacon Hill in Boston. His accomplice in the robbery, Anthony Pantone, 57, of Malden, pleaded guilty in August 2016 and received a 78-month sentence in federal prison.

Police say the two men entered the branch wearing hooded sweatshirts with portions of their faces visible. Dinovo vaulted the teller counter and stuffed cash from two tellers drawers into a duffel bag. He also demanded employees open the bank vault, and he removed money from there as well.

Pantone remained in front of the counter throughout the entire robbery holding what appeared to be a handgun. The two made off with $16,320. The men were arrested a short time later in Charlestown.
