Wilmington Residents, Businnesses Rally To Send Girl To Prom

By the time Kayla Blizzard got permission to attend Wilmington High School's prom, she had less than 24 hours to get ready.

WILMINGTON, MA — Local businesses and individual Wilmington residents stepped up to help a mom who took to Facebook in hope of making her daughter's dream of attending prom come true. Kayla Blizzard has autism and attend a small school that doesn't have a prom, so she asked officials at Wilmington High School if she could attend theirs. But she didn't get permission until the day before the event, leaving she and her mom trying to scramble to get ready.

Her mom posted a plea for help on Facebook and, within minutes, help was arriving. Floral Dreams in Wilmington donated a corsage, and Stoneham-based Russo's Limo Rental offered Blizzard a ride. Other residents offered dresses, shoes and makeup services. "I do not have the words in my vocabulary to describe how happy and grateful I am," Blizzard told Fox 25 News, which first reported this story.

Wilmington High School's senior prom is Friday night at the Danversport Yacht Club in Danvers.
