Wilmington Schools Closing 3 Hours Early Wednesday

The first day of school is going to be a short one, thanks to the heat.

WILMINGTON, MA -- The heat wave socking the region prompted Wilmington Public Schools officials to make Wednesday an early-release day. The school system will follows its usual early-release schedule, with schools getting out three hours ahead of their normal dismissal time.

"I want to assure you that the safety of our students and staff is the priority in making these decisions," Superintendent Glenn Brand said in a note to parents. "While I recognize that the timing is unfortunate given our start of school this week, the extreme conditions anticipated for tomorrow are of even greater concern than today."

Schools will be dismissed at the following times on Wednesday.
