Wilmington Schools Receive Three Grants: School Committee Agenda

According to the meeting packet for Wednesday's School Committee meeting, the district won over $10,000, in the form of three grants.

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington Public Schools have recently earned three substantial grants, from the state government and private entities, according to materials provided ahead of Wednesday's School Committee meeting. Two of the grants are on the agenda for approval, while the other is part of the superintendent's report. Together, the three grants total $11,500.

The state grant is a Safe and Competitive Schools Fund grant, worth $6,500. The district applied for but did not receive a maximum $10,000 grant. The grant will be used for behavioral health promotion, including social-emotional learning, bullying prevention, and behavioral intervention. Specifically, the district hopes to expand the Choose To Be Nice Curriculum and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.

The high school world languages program won a $3,500 grant from the Centro Attivita Scolastiche Italiane, for Italian learning materials. According to the grant application, over 400 students in middle and high school take Italian.

Finally, the visual arts program won $1,500 for the Wilmington Education Foundation, to put on the Wilmington Public Schools Art Fair.

The committee will also discuss the superintendent evaluation process and criteria and hear an athletics update from the interim athletic director.
