UPDATE: Wilmington Public Schools Closed on Friday

Updated at 6:05 p.m.: According to the Wilmington Public Schools website, all schools in town are closed on Friday.

During his news conference Thursday evening, Governor Deval Patrick encouraged all schools to close for the day Friday if possible. Drivers have been asked to stay off the roads beginning at noon if possible.

Original Story: With a potential blizzard moving into the area on Friday, Superintendent of Schools Joanne Benton announced that students across the district will be released early.

Benton announced in a letter to parents in the district that there will be no kindergarten or preschool classes on Friday.

All other students in town will go to school to start the day before they are dismissed early.

Wilmington Middle School students will be let out at 10 a.m., Wilmington High School will release students at 10:30 a.m., Woburn Street and North Intermediate will dismiss for the day at 11 a.m. and Shawsheen Elementary and West Intermediate students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m.

In addition, Benton said there will be no afternoon CARES programs or other after school activities.

The track of the storm, however, could change the district's plans, according to Benton.

"If the weather deteriorates faster than predicted and the storm arrives earlier, then I will cancel school later tonight or first thing in the morning," Benton wrote. "Thank you and be safe."
