Wilmington Selectmen Chair Won't Run For Another Term

Michael Champoux endorsed the only candidate who has withdrawn nomination papers to run for his soon-to-be-vacant seat.

WILMINGTON, MA -- Saying it was "the right time" to step away, Wilmington Selectmen Chairman Michael Champoux said he won't seek a fourth, three-year term when his current term expires. Champoux made his announcement at Monday night's board of selectmen meeting and made it official that there would be a new member on the five-member board following the April 28 town election. No other selectmen is up for reelection this year.

"I feel I need to dedicate some of my time, energy and personal resources to my family, my work, and other endeavors," he said. Champoux also called his decision to step down "the worst-kept secret" in town. That's because Finance Committee member Jonathan Eaton took out nomination papers to run for Champoux's seat last week. Champoux gave his endorsement to Eaton at Monday's meeting.

"I have 100% confidence that the gentleman who pulled his papers last week will be an exemplary member of this board. I hope the Town of Wilmington will agree with me and vote" for him, he said.
