Wilmington Selectmen's Race Is Too Close To Call

With less than a week before residents vote for three seats on the board of selectmen, many remain undecided, according to a Patch poll.

WILMINGTON, MA — Nearly one out of every five likely voters in next week's Wilmington town election remain undecided in a six-way race for two selectmen's seats that are up for reelection, according to a Wilmington Patch poll conducted over the weekend. While incumbent Greg Bendel (49.5 percent) has a commanding lead, incumbent Kevin Caira is trailing challenger Suzanne Sullivan and narrowly leads Rob Fasulo. But the biggest factor revealed by the poll is that 18.7 percent of likely voters still have not made a decision in how they will vote for one or both seats.

The online poll of 291 likely voters was conducted between April 19 and 21 and has a five percent margin of error. The poll was only open to Wilmington residents who said they were "definitely voting" or "most likely voting" in Saturday's town election.

CandidatePercentage
Greg Bendel (Incumbent)49.5
Suzanne Sullivan38.5
Kevin Caira (Incumbent)33.0
Rob Fasulo29.7
Mark Maselli11.0
Daniel Murphy1.1
Undecided/Not Sure18.7

Note: The percentages add up to more than 100 percent as voters can choose two candidates in the race. The top two vote getters will win the seats currently held by Caira and Bendel.

In the race to serve out the year remaining on a seat on the board that was vacated when Ed Loud resigned earlier this year, the poll offered more clear-cut projections. More than half of poll respondents said they planned to vote for Jomarie O'Mahoney. But in that race, even more voters remain undecided.

Jomarie O'Mahoney51.6
Kevin MacDonald14.3
Daryn Marsh9.9
