Wilmington Teacher Accused of Domestic Assault Returns to School
Members of the Wilmington High School community took to social media to voice concerns

WILMINGTON, MA — A Wilmington High School teacher who was arrested and accused of a domestic assault has returned from administrative leave Monday.
In an email to the Wilmington High School community, superintendent Mary DeLai indicated that Physical Education teacher Anthony Altieri, 39, would be returning to school following his placement on administrative Wednesday. Altieri was arrested on Sept. 11 on charges surrounding the alleged assault.
"We write to you this afternoon to inform you that Mr. Altieri will be returning from leave on Monday. The decision to permit his return to the classroom is based on his tenure and record of performance here at Wilmington High School. As indicated in prior communication, we hope that people respect that he is owed his day and court and his right to privacy. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Peters or myself," DeLai wrote to the WHS community.

The mother of the alleged victim told police that her daughter had been assaulted and may have broken her nose, reported the Gloucester Times on Sept. 12. The mother reportedly told police that an argument between the two ended with Altieri allegedly smashing the victim's face into a door frame.
An officer stated in the report that the victim had an open laceration on her forehead and her nose appeared possibly to be broken.
