Wilmington's Annual Fun On The Fourth Celebration Cancelled
The event planning committee hopes to reschedule a town celebration, including fireworks for this fall.

WILMINGTON, MA – Like many other event planning committees across the country, organizers of Wilmington's Fun On the Fourth celebration were hipping to move ahead with plans despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
On Wednesday, the group announced it wasn't possible.
In a message posted on the group's Facebook page, organizers announced that the event would not go on as planned and that it is hoping to plan a town celebration for sometime later this fall. This year's July 4 celebration would have marked the 40th anniversary of the event.

"We needed to make a decision at this time due to final planning requirements, including pending contracts with vendors involved in presenting the Celebration," the group wrote.
Committee chairman Scott Garrant wrote in an email Wednesday that the decision was made in the best interest of the public's health.

"It was not a difficult decision in light of the current health situation and the shared concern for everyone's safety," Garrant wrote. "That said, however, from the standpoint of the members of the committee who truly enjoy preparing for and presenting the Celebration, and who know what the Celebration means to community groups and many residents, we were certainly saddened to cancel."
The committee announced it would move ahead with plans for the fall celebration if conditions allow and will provide updated information once it is available.
"While we are certainly disappointed, we look forward to the return of the traditional Celebration in 2021," the group wrote.
