It was a glimpse into the future for the Wilmington wrestling team. That's the plan at least for the young Wildcats.
Winchester came to town and dominated the hosts as the Sachems cruised to a 75-3 victory. The win improved Winchester's record to 9-1 on the year and added another loss for Wilmington, which features only one senior.
That, however, is the good new for the locals.

"It's a great problem to have. We have eight or nine guys with only one or two years experience," said Wilmington head coach Michael Pimental. "Long term it's going to be a great outcome. Right now we're taking our bumps and bruises, but it's to be expected. A couple of years down the road we're going to be the team that catches opponents on the other side. What goes around comes around."
Alex Furlong is the team's only senior, and the 195-pounder showed his veteran know-how on Wednesday.

Furlong outlasted Winchester's Tristan Hardy for a 9-3 victory, the only points the Wildcats would earn on the night.
The Wilmington grappler said wrestling against strong teams like Winchester will help the team's development in the long run.
"It shows us where we could be in four years if we keep on working hard and everyone sticks with it and puts in the effort," said Furlong. "We could be that team in four years."
There are more than 30 total wrestlers for the Wildcats, and the team's mentor said it's likely that more talented athletes will stay in the district with the construction of the new high school.
"The goal is to build the sport of wrestling," said Pimental. "This is the competition you want to emulate. It's wrestling teams like this that is going to set the bar. They don't know where the bar is going to be standing for them if they don't see teams like this."
