Obituary - Joseph V. Campo

Joseph V. Campo, age 97, a long-time resident of Winchester, passed away on September 25, lovingly surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of Lucille (Sinowsky) Campo for 30 years until her death in 1985.

Born in Somerville, Joe was the son of the late Antonio and Lucia (Civiello) Campo. He was raised and educated in Somerville and attended Somerville High School.

Joe began work as a carpenter at a young age, following in his father's footsteps. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army and worked for a time as a truck driver and at Butler Chevrolet, then ultimately at New England Toyota, where his carpentry skills opened doors for him to work as a personal carpenter remodeling a superior's yacht and travel the world. He also remodeled Pinkham Castle in Marblehead. Later, he obtained a carpenter position at Boston University, where he worked full-time for 40 years until he was 95 years old. His career and passion for carpentry kept him very busy, even in his spare time, as he always had a project going on.

Remembered by his children as loving, generous and kind, Joe always blew a kiss to his wife when he saw her in the window and kept the candy bowls full for the kids.

As a devoted family man, Joe brought several family members to Ohio for the Civiello family reunion every year. This, along with their active household and close-knit family, created many cherished lifelong family memories and tales.

Joe is lovingly survived by his children: Donna Marie McTague and her late husband Robert, of Woburn, Theresa R. Gentile and her husband Richard of North Reading, Lawrence P. Campo and his husband James Smith, of Chelsea, Stephen L. Campo and his wife Susan Goobie, of Winchester, and James A. Campo and his wife Kimberly, of Winchester. A son, Joseph C. Campo, predeceased him. He was the cherished grandfather of Laura, Robert, Kiala, Melanie, Jeanette, Carl, Jillian, Marissa, Gina, Joseph, Emily, Maxwell, Julia, Theodore, Nathaniel and the late Luke; the great-grandfather of Kirk, Shawn, Haley, Macayla, Dominic, Victor, Gavin, Anthony, Nicholas, Jonathan, Brendan, Ella, Brooke, Brynlee, Luca, Penelope, Brimmer, Iris and Dottie. He was the dear brother of Anna Petrivelli of Largo, FL and the late Vincent, Rocco and Anthony Campo and the late Carmella Varraso. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 4-7 PM, and again on Friday, October 2 at 9AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester, at 10AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
