Today's riddle: Why did the cookie go to the hospital? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Winchester capital list leaves $12M Town Hall problem unsolved (winchesternews.org) — Winchester officials are weighing about $4 million in fall capital spending while still lacking a plan to cover roughly $12 million in needed Town Hall work. The proposal taps stabilization funds for school HVAC designs, Lincoln School work, a future fire engine, and infrastructure studies, but leaves major Town Hall accessibility and systems upgrades unfunded for now.
2. Planning Board to present three articles for Winchester's fall Town Meeting (winchesternews.org) — Winchester's Planning Board will bring three zoning articles to fall Town Meeting aimed at simplifying home projects, streamlining downtown design review, and modernizing application procedures. If approved, homeowners with nonconforming lots could more easily improve their properties, developers would face fewer redundant reviews, and site plan and special permit processes would be consolidated into a single, clearer track.
3. School Committee seeks to create School Transportation Revolving Fund (homenewshere.com) — Winchester's School Committee is asking Town Meeting to create a School Transportation Revolving Fund, which would hold all parent-paid bus fees in a dedicated account. Starting with fiscal years after July 1, 2027, the fund would cover transportation contracts, fuel, software, and part of one staff salary, with any leftover money staying in the fund instead of returning to the general budget.
4. Globe Schools Insider: BC hockey commitment, a hole-in-one, and a championship coach steps down (bostonglobe.com) — Winchester sports fans have reason to celebrate as senior Hazel Lovins just became the high school's all-time kills leader in girls' volleyball, surpassing 900 in a sweep of Burlington. The roundup also spotlights Winchester graduate John Scully earning Patriot League golf honors, alongside standout performances and upsets from high school teams across Massachusetts.
