A Look Back at the Class of '98 ... 1898, That Is
The Woburn High School Class of 1898 graduated 113 years ago today.

For those of you who thought June 27 was really late for the last day of school, did you know that the Woburn High School Class of 1898 graduated on June 29 that year?
According to the Boston Daily Globe, the 1898 graduation exercises were held in the auditorium at Woburn High during the evening hours of June 29.
Musical performances included "March of Our Nation," "Anchored," "Humpty Dumpty" and "Vergiss Mein Nicht."

The Globe reported that several students addressed the class, including Gladys Aldrich who spoke about "A romance of the Middlesex Canal," Charles A. P. Bartlett discussed history, Katherine Collins read an essay on Macbeth, Lena French read her essay "Wit and Humor," Bertha N. Munroe also read her essay "The Poetry of the Pilgrim Life," and the valedictorian, Maud M. Skinner, spoke about "The Quest for the Holy Grail."
Mayor Feeney then gave the graduates their diplomas, according to the 1898 report.
