WOBURN, MA — Firefighters responded Saturday evening to a house fire on Garden Terrace.
The two-alarm blaze at around 5:30 p.m. sent flames through the roof of the Cape-style home and created heavy smoke, the Woburn Fire Department said in a statement.
No injuries were reported at the scene, on a residential side street off Mishawum Road, near the junction of Interstate 95/Route 128 and Interstate 93. Responders eventually controlled and snuffed out the fire.
The call was a debut for the Woburn Fire Department’s Ladder 2 truck, which made its first response since going into service earlier this month. In addition, WFD Capt. John Siafarkis commanded his first call since his recent promotion to that role, the department said.
Ladder 2 replaces a high-rise firefighting apparatus that ended operation more than a decade ago. The truck will respond to box alarms across about half of Woburn, the department has said.
Firefighters from neighboring communities assisted the WFD and provided station coverage during Saturday's response.
