Weather forecast:
1. Beware: Movie-Prop Money Is Duping Woburn Merchants (patch.com) — Woburn police are warning local businesses that movie-prop cash labeled for film use has been successfully passed to merchants in the city. Officers urge anyone handling cash to check for identical serial numbers, missing watermarks, odd texture, or “For Motion Picture Use Only” markings to avoid losses. The warning comes amid widespread availability of realistic prop money online.
2. 200+ Mass. biotech employees were laid off last week. That may only be the beginning (masslive.com) — Hundreds of jobs are being cut at Replimune’s Woburn headquarters after federal regulators again rejected the company’s lead melanoma drug, and more layoffs may still be coming. The cuts hit both commercial and research roles in Woburn and manufacturing staff in Framingham, slashing nearly half the company’s workforce as it now explores “strategic alternatives.”
3. Council accepts $970K gift for Horn Pond fish ladder (homenewshere.com) — Woburn just secured a $970,000 anonymous gift to build a new fish ladder and viewing area at Horn Pond, covering most of a $1.1 million project. The upgrade, alongside new parking and a PFAS filtration plant, could also free up earlier settlement funds for other environmental and flood-mitigation work around Horn Pond Brook and nearby neighborhoods.
4. Boston College Commencement (bc.edu) — Two major local philanthropists with deep ties to Woburn will receive honorary degrees at Boston College’s commencement. Joyce and Bill Cummings founded Cummings Foundation, support New Horizons in Woburn, and run Woburn‑based Cummings Properties, which houses thousands of businesses. Their long record includes backing Woburn healthcare, hospice, and community organizations.
5. Kennedy Returns As Head Coach Of 2027 U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team (usahockey.com) — A Woburn native is back on the international stage: Courtney Kennedy will again lead the 2027 U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team after coaching this year’s squad to a perfect gold. Her long coaching and playing résumé, including Olympic medals and major college roles, highlights a notable hometown connection to elite women’s hockey.
