Woburn Schools Awarded Grant For Nutrition Program

The district earned the award in part through its increase in participation in a breakfast program.

WOBURN, MA — Woburn Public Schools have been awarded $69,383 through the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, according to a statement from the district.

The program operates in elementary schools nationwide to support healthy choices, healthy outcomes and healthy families.

Woburn met the program's eligibility requirements through its substantial increase in breakfast participation, surpassing the 60% threshold through the success of the district's Breakfast in the Classroom program. The program provides free breakfast to students at their desks.

Five of Woburn's schools will receive funding in the following amounts:

Through these funds, students will receive fresh fruits and vegetables, nutrition education and opportunities to try new foods.

"I am proud to share that Woburn Public Schools has been recognized for its achievements in nutrition, which led us to receive this grant," Director of Child Nutrition Services Lisa Toumayan said in a statement. "Through this funding, our elementary students will have greater access to healthy choices, allowing them to succeed both inside and outside the classroom."
