📰 News we're reading

• School Committee OKs $10 custodial fee hike for WMHS rentals (homenewshere.com) — Woburn families and youth leagues will see custodial coverage fees at WMHS rentals rise from $55 to $65 per hour starting January 1, while broader rental rates remain unchanged for now. The School Committee approved the $10 increase for local youth groups and nonprofits but postponed a much steeper hike for organizations based outside Woburn. Any group using WMHS fields or spaces must still book at least four hours of custodial coverage.

• Large police investigation shuts down Reading neighborhood (newsbreak.com) — A major police investigation shut down part of a Reading neighborhood Thursday morning, drawing multiple Reading police cruisers, the state medical examiner, and a Woburn Animal Control vehicle to a Center Street home near Route 28. Authorities have released few details but say the situation remains an active investigation, and residents are being urged to watch for official updates as more information is confirmed.

• Reading awarded $500K grant to advance Walkers Brook Dr. redesign (homenewshere.com) — Woburn is getting a $150,000 state Housing Choice grant to advance zoning and design work for the New Boston Street planning project, aimed at easing redevelopment in that corridor. The award comes alongside a larger $500,000 grant to Reading for redesigning Walkers Brook Drive, signaling continued state investment in transportation and redevelopment across this part of Middlesex County.
