Elementary Schools’ Back-to-School Night is Thursday
With laser show at Shamrock School for students only.

Parents of school-age children, you know the drill. First comes the first day of school. Then, soon, after, back-to-school night for you, usually adults only.
All Woburn elementary schools will hold their back to school night programs this Thursday, Sept. 22.

One school is doing something a little different.
While most programs are for adults only, the will have a laser show for students only while their parents are in their classrooms.

The idea, according to Shamrock Principal Wayne Clark, is that students bring their parents to their school. “Students must attend with ‘their own’ parent or guardian,” the website notice states.
Clark said he started to offer a program for students—“free day care”— during his school’s back-to-school program about four years ago.
“We dramatically increased attendance,” he told Woburn Patch Tuesday.
Back-to-school night hours, according to the city school website, woburnpublicschools.com:
5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
6:30 - 7:45 p.m.
6:30 to 8 p.m.
6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
6 – 8 p.m.
6:20 – 7:45 p.m.
6 – 8 p.m.
6-7 p.m.
Morning open house at Linscott-Rumford School
The morning after back-to-school night, the Linscott-Rumford School will hold an open house for local businesspeople and the community.
The historic school is named after Andrew R. Linscott, “a Civil War veteran, teacher and principal” and Benjamin Thompson, also known as Count Rumford, “a scientist, engineer, activist and famous with European nobility,” according to the on-line open house invitation from Linscott-Rumford Principal Ernie Wells.
The open house will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m.

Upper schools
Back-to-school events were held Tuesday night at the and Middle Schools.
Instead of back-to-school night, parent-teacher conferences will be held at on Oct. 12.
