Woburn star back scores four times in win over Wilmington.

Wilmington took over the lead. But Chucky Ortiz took over the game.

speedy running back scored five times on Friday, including a trio of touchdowns within about three minutes in the fourth quarter after the Wildcats snagged a 21-20 edge, and as a result the Tanners went on to a 39-29 road victory.

The hosts took a 7-0 lead late in the opening quarter, but Nico Cornelio got Woburn on the board with a bruising four-yard run.

After a Wilmington touchdown with less than two minutes left before the half, it appeared the Tanners would trail by a score heading into the intermission. But Ortiz hauled in an 18-yard touchdown with 15 seconds to play before the break, sending the teams into the lockeroom with the Wildcats leading, 14-12.

Ortiz' dominant second half started with 1:12 to play in the third when he jolted 37 yards into the end zone. After he added the two-point conversion, Woburn captured a 20-14 lead, its first of the game.

That lead only lasted for 2:18 before John Parsons recaptured momentum for Wilmington with a 33-yard run up the gut just one play after a Matt Ferreira 47-yard quarterback keeper.

Cue the Chucky Ortiz show.

With 6:41 to play, the senior captain ran 17 yards to paydirt to put Woburn on top 26-21 after a botched two-point conversion attempt. Then he sealed the win at the 5:04 mark when he snatched a Ferreira pass out of the air and ran the interception about 35 yards into the end zone. Just for kicks, he broke free and ran 48 yards for his final touchdown of the day with 3:07 left on the clock.

Wilmington cracked the end zone once more, but the Tanners sealed the 39-29 win with an interception.
