WMHS Bands, Choral Groups Perform at WinterFest

Performers' families, friends and a special mentor fill the audience.

Samantha Coull has sung in a choir since she was in third grade. On Thursday night, the WMHS 10th grader sang with the Woburn Memorial High School Chorus at the high school’s WinterFest.

In the audience sat Coull’s grandmother, who is also her vocal inspiration, Deborah Doucette of Lynn.

“I come to all (Samantha’s) concerts,” Doucette said before the concert began. “I sing myself.” She entertains, she said, at nursing homes and music clubs, singing everything from tunes from the ‘40s to country style.

Farther back in the auditorium, Andrew Krause of Woburn waited to hear Jaimee Winer, his girlfriend, sing in both the chorus and with the WMHS a cappella singers.

Even farther back in the auditorium, Kathy and Ed Sullivan – not that Ed Sullivan -- waited for their daughter, Mariah, to perform.  Mariah plays clarinet in the WMHS Concert Band. Kathy teaches third grade at the Altavesta Elementary School.

In the front row of the audience sat several special guests:  the family of WMHS Chorus Director Brian Gilbertie:  his wife, Cinzia; their daughters, Ginevra, 4 and Alexandra, 1 and Cinzia’s mother. This is Gilbertie’s second year as WMHS choral director; Alexandra was only several months old when she came last year to her dad’s directing debut at the high school.

The WMHS Tanner Marching Band, along with the WMHS Drumline and Colorguard, and the a Cappella Choir, Chorus and Concert Band all performed at WinterFest.
