Sounds of the Season: Joyce Middle School Student Musicians Perform at WinterFest Concert
Performers' families fill the auditorium.

The family of Sean Callahan took up almost one whole row of seats in the center of the Joyce Middle School auditorium Wednesday night, from one aisle to the other: his mother, Debbie, and father, Sean; his sister, Shayla, a sixth grader at the Joyce; his brother, Aiden, a second grader at the Goodyear Elementary School; and his two grandmothers, Jean Callahan and Mary Ames.
They all came to hear him play saxophone in the Joyce intermediate seventh and eighth grade band at the Joyce WinterFest concert. Sean started to play the saxophone this year, according to his grandmother Ames.
“He practices a lot,” she said.

A few rows closer to the stage, in a bank of seats along the side of the auditorium sat the extended family of Sarah Helmar. They had come to hear Sarah, a Joyce sixth grader, play – and solo – on the xylophone in the Joyce beginner sixth grade band. Among her cheering section: her parents; brother, Benjamin, a third grader at the Goodyear School; sister, Kellan, who is 3; cousin, Zachary Conlon, all the way from Seabrook, N.H.; two uncles; and even her grandpa, Buddy Conlon of Woburn.
The Joyce Middle School Chorus also performed.

Check out the students’ performances. Woburn Patch tried to include clips of many of the musicians, especially those who were visible to the audience, not screened by music stands or other students, as they performed.
