1 Dead, 2 Injured In Worcester July 4 Weekend Shootings

The violence began early on July 3 with a double-shooting, and continued on July 4 when a man was injured in the Grafton Hill area.

WORCESTER, MA — Two separate shootings over the July 4 weekend in Worcester left one man dead and another two others injured, according to police.

A double-shooting happened early Friday morning at the Lakeside Apartments near Garland Street. One of the victims died at a local hospital, and the other was hospitalized with serious injuries, police said.

Worcester police did not immediately make any arrests in connection to that shooting. It was the city's third homicide so far in 2020, and the second since Tuesday.

On July 4 just before midnight, a 24-year-old man was shot along Almont Avenue in the Grafton Hill area. He was hospitalized with serious injuries, police said. The victim was involved in "a verbal altercation" between a group of people before he was shot. Police arrested Leroy Thompson, 25, on an assault and battery charge.
