18-Year-Old Indicted In Worcester Molotov Cocktail Incident
Vincent Eovacious, 18, was arrested at a June Worcester protest after he was seen carrying suspected incendiary devices, authorities said.
WORCESTER, MA — An 18-year-old from Worcester has been indicted on federal charges in connection to a violent clash between police and protesters on June 1.
Vincent Eovacious was indicted Thursday on charges of civil disorder and possession of an unregistered firearm. Federal prosecutors sought the unlicensed firearm charge after police caught him with suspected Molotov cocktails.
Prosecutors and Eovacious' attorney appeared headed for a possible plea deal this summer. Prosecutors had agreed to delay an indictment twice before this week.
According to Worcester police, Eovacious mounted a roof near Main and May streets at around 11 p.m. on June 1. Worcester police Sgt. Shawn Barbale began talking to Eovacious in an attempt to get him to come down. Eovacious did, and he was found carrying a satchel with "three clear glass bottles with a slightly yellow liquid, which emanated the smell of gasoline, five white rags, one green lighter, and one silver lighter," court records say.
According to court filings, the civil disorder charge against Eovacious is due to property damage.
During the June 1 incident, Beacon Pharmacy, 810 Main St., was damaged. The pharmacy is engaged in interstate commerce because it receives deliveries from out-of-state. That allows federal authorities to intervene.
Eovacious has not been accused of directly damaging the pharmacy, but his involvement in the larger demonstration means that he contributed to the obstruction of interstate commerce, ATF agent James Mattons wrote in a June court filing.
Eovacious, who attended school in Framingham, is out of jail on a bond, and has been ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment during his release, according to court records.
