2 Dead In Worcester Fire In Triple-Decker
The fire late Tuesday night along Hancock Street killed two, left seven people homeless and two firefighters injured.
WORCESTER, MA — Two peopled died in a fire in a multifamily home along Hancock Street late Tuesday night, according to city officials.
The fire broke out near 11:30 p.m. in a home at 3 Hancock Street. Firefighters arrived to find the blaze raging on the first floor of the three-decker building. The victims were pulled from the first floor, but later died at a hospital.
"Despite the valiant efforts of Worcester Firefighters, the Department has confirmed that the two residents succumbed to their injuries. Two firefighters were also transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The fire went to two alarms and is currently under investigation. Four adults and three children were displaced," city officials said in a news release Wednesday.
The victims were reportedly a husband and wife who lived on the first floor of the home, according to reports.
Tuesday's fire was the deadliest in Worcester since May 2022, when four people died in a fire in a multifamily home along Gage Street.
