2 Worcester Employers Named Among 'Healthiest Workplaces' In US

Two Worcester employers have been named among the top 100 in the country when it comes to employee health.

WORCESTER, MA— Two Worcester employers have landed on the "2023 Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America."

Each year, Healthiest Employers awards the top 100 workplaces to applicants of various sizes, locations, and industries. Employers are evaluated in six categories including culture and leadership commitment, foundational components, strategic planning, communications marketing, programming and interventions, and reporting and analytics.

In Worcester, the following employers made the list:

  • University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School in Worcester at No. 73 (4,529 employees)
  • College of the Holy Cross in Worcester at No. 91 (1,102 employees)

UMass Chan Medical School credited the mental health, wellness, and support initiatives through its Office of Well-Being for earning the award.

“The award symbolizes that we are on the right track in how we’re positively, proactively and creatively impacting our employees’ lives,” Office of Well Being Director Valerie Wedge said in a statement. “This recognition reinforces that, after only two-and-a-half years of programming, our leadership’s commitment to the health and wellness of the UMass Chan community speaks volumes about what UMass Chan is all about.”

The top-rated employer across the country was BankUnited, N.A., a Miami Lakes, FL company. The rest of the top five included The Starr Group in Greenfield, WI; Harris Health System in Bellaire, TX; One AZ Credit Union in Phoenix, AZ; and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in Kansas City, MO.

Each employer was awarded a score out of 100 based on their performance in each category.

Healthiest Employers noted that the vast majority of workplaces on the list had certain things in common, such as using metrics in the strategic planning of their health and wellness programming, providing tuition reimbursement for employees, and incorporating social determinants of health into their programs.
