2 Worcester County Men Arrested On Gun Charges
A state trooper pulled the men over along Route 2 after noticing an expired registration tag.

ATHOL, MA — A recent routine traffic stop for an expired registration turned into a weapons seizure for state police. Troopers arrested two Worcester County men for possessing guns with large capacity magazines, among other charges.
A trooper pulled over Antoine Mitchell, 20, of Leominster, early Saturday morning along Route 2 in Athol. The trooper discovered that neither Mitchell nor his passenger, Trey Mahone, 24, of Fitchburg, had valid driver licenses, according to police.
The trooper called a tow truck, and ordered Mahone and Mitchell to get out of the car. During a pre-tow search, the trooper found a Cobray CM-11 9mm with an extended clip — under state law, clips can't hold more than 10 rounds. The trooper also found another 9mm pistol in the car.
Both men were arrested on charges of possession of firearms without a license, possession of a large capacity weapons, and improper storage of weapons. They were taken to jail, but released on $1,040 bond, according to police.
