Up To 20 Years In Prison For Auburn Teacher Convicted Of Rape
Stephen Jaszek, 66, of South Hadley, raped a student in 2009 and 2010 while she was his student, according to prosecutors.
WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester County Superior Court judge sentenced a former Auburn teacher to up to 20 years in prison on Friday after he was found guilty of raping a former student, according to District Attorney Joseph Early Jr.
Stephen Jaszek, 66, of South Hadley, was found guilty of two counts of aggravated rape by a mandated reporter, two counts of aggravated rape of a child and one count of aggravated rape of a child under age 14 during a bench trial earlier this month.
In August 2018, a former student, now 23 years old, came forward to accuse Jaszek of sex assaults that happened in 2009 and 2010. All the assaults took place in a classroom, according to Early.
On top of serving between 18 and 20 years in state prison, Jaszek will have to register as a sex offender when he gets out. Early's office had asked a judge to sentence Jaszek to up to 35 years in prison.
“This was an egregious case involving an educator abusing a young student,” Early said in a news release. “This sexual assault survivor showed strength and courage while testifying about what she endured."
