5 Questions For Worcester At-Large Council Candidate Bill Coleman

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester's At-Large City Council race, as usual, contains the biggest field of candidates in 2021 with ten people vying for six seats.

Five of those candidates are incumbents — plus one more incumbent, District 5 Councilor Matt Wally, who doesn't currently hold an at-large seat. Worcester Patch asked all City Council candidate to answer questionnaires so voters can get to know them and their priorities better.

Candidate Bill Coleman has run for City Council several times, mostly recently in 2019 when he ran for both an at-large seat and the mayor's chair. He's also hosts the show "This Is Worcester" on WCCA. Here's how he answered our candidate questionnaire.

Why are you running for City Council in 2021?

To work for the citizens of Worcester as a political leader voicing their concerns to our administrative leadership.

There are now hundreds of housing units planned near Polar Park. What does Worcester have to do to ensure that these developments 1) don't overcrowd the neighborhood and 2) don't push out lower-income residents?

We have a housing crisis in our city. There is a need for more housing for people to buy at a affordable price. Families and elderly are looking for apartments when housing units are closed with a 5 to 10 year wait list.

The City Council voted 8-3 in March to adopt ShotSpotter Connect. How would you have voted and why?

I support providing the police department with the tools needed for the best public safety for our growing city. Yes to body cameras

What's your stance on making WRTA buses fare free? Following up on that, when was the last time you rode a WRTA bus?

Yes to fair free.

What's one thing that's missing in Worcester that you would like to see added?

More public input.
