WORCESTER, MA — A home invasion robbery in the Main South area Monday morning turned into a police chase after a suspect ran from a traffic stop.

The incident began around 11 a.m. when police were called to a Richards Street home on a report of an armed home invasion. The suspect had escaped the home in a black SUV shortly before police arrived, police said.

According to police, officers noticed the suspect's vehicle near the intersection of Richards and Cambridge streets. When police tried to pull the driver over, he sped north and crashed on a lawn near Main and Marble streets.

The driver got out of the SUV, jumped onto the roof of a police cruiser, and then took off running, police said. He was caught and arrested a short distance away along Marble Street.

Juan Toro, 25, was arrested on multiple charges, including driving without a license, failing to stop for police, and possession of drugs. The home invasion is still under investigation, and police did not immediately charge Toro in connection to that incident.
