Alabama Man Fires Gun During Worcester Dispute: Police

The 27-year-old fired his gun in the air during a dispute along Providence Street on Wednesday evening, police believe.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester police arrested an Alabama man on Wednesday after shots were fired during a dispute along Providence Street.

Police responded to a home near Providence and Kopping Street at around 5 p.m. after a report of gunfire. Nearby along Spurr Street, police stopped a red Chevrolet SUV that was believed to be involved in the incident.

When police pulled the vehicle over, William Davis, 27, got out and tried to run away. Police say a gun fell off of Davis' lap as he ran away, and he stopped to try to retrieve it. Police were able to stop Davis and arrest him.

According to police, Davis pointed a gun at a local resident during a dispute, and then shot the gun in the air.

He was arrested on three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, armed assault in a dwelling, and multiple other firearms offenses.
