Alert: Worcester Officials Remind Residents To Throw Out Food if Your Power Went Out

Worcester has issued a food advisory.

WORCESTER, MA—Numerous homes and businesses lost power during the thunderstorm on Friday evening, knocking it out for hours in some cases.

Worcester officials issued a food safety advisory on Sunday, reminding residents, "Due to extended power outages caused by last evening's weather event, residents are urged to discard any food products that were without refrigeration for four or more hours."

Those who lost power should discard any perishable food (such as meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and leftovers) that have been above 40 °F for more than two hours.

"Never taste food to determine its safety! You can’t rely on appearance or odor to determine whether food is safe. Always discard any items in the refrigerator that have come into contact with raw meat juices."
